Trombone Shorty Uniondale Concert reviews
George Thorogood can still rock!
The Selwyn Birchwood Band, the opening act, had a nice blues/funk blend. A different touch was the instrumental "Tequila", which allowed Mr. Trombone Shorty to take a little break. Trombone Shorty mentioned that he and the core of the band had been doing this for 43 years at one point in the show. He can still play a mean slide guitar, and the nods to Jacksonville were a nice touch. Of course, the standards were rolled out ("One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer", "Move it on Over", "I Drink Alone", "Bad to the Bone" and encore "Madison Blues"). Trombone Shorty acted like he was having a thoroughly good time. They didn't sound like they were getting tired of it. All in all, a satisfyingly rocking show. You don't often see a lap steel guitar used outside of country music, but it worked.
